Attorney Houman Varzandeh began his training in immigration law before graduating from law school. Mr. Varzandeh served as an extern with the United States Department of Justice, Executive Office for Immigration Review in 1997. During that service, he worked closely for the immigration Judges in Los Angeles doing legal research and writing, and helping them formulate legal opinions about complex issues of deportability. While in law school, Mr. Varzandeh was on the board of governors of Southwestern University's prestigious Law Review as the Special Projects Editor and also a member of the Moot Court Honors Program. He graduated cum laude from Southwestern University School of Law in 1998. Upon graduation, he was chosen by then United States Attorney General Janet Reno as part of her prestigious US Department of Justice Honors program and assigned a position as an assistant chief counsel with the Immigration and Naturalization Service ("INS") in Los Angeles, California. As an assistant chief counsel for the INS, he litigated countless cases on behalf of the US government in both detained and non-detained settings, as well as before the Board of Immigration Appeals. |
